IOT’s costumes and sets reflect respect for nature as well as the creative process. Created under the hands of fiber artists — led by Mi-Kyoung Lee, head of Fibers at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia — remainder, recycled, and repurposed products become works of art, packed in duffle bags and flown to Italy for the stage.
With more than a decade of dedication to sustainable values, IOT is proud to have collaborated on green design with like-minded individuals and organizations in Philadelphia and Italy — dedicated to the artistic soul and its role to uplift and inspire modern civilization.
From the Ordinary to the Magical
What Our Sets and Costumes Are Made From
Recycled water bottles, panty hose, pipe cleaners, twine, trash bags, insulation foam, recycled lathe wood, and orange plastic fencing become sets; duct tape, saran wrap, bathroom scrubbies, zip ties, popsicle sticks, packing peanuts, and remainder fabrics become costumes and props — celebrating the bricoleur spirit of turning the ordinary into the magical. This same process, which engages artists in ausstrahlung (a powerful non-verbal communication model), minimizes rehearsal hours while maximizing community building and intercultural communication.
